The Manchester Evening News ran a piece on Tuesday about the opposition to the Green Lane site:

Colin - Absolutely correct on all points!!

Dan - We were obviously at cross-purposes and referring to different things. There was no report and hence no photograph on the Advertiser's web site of the meeting, maybe there was one in the paper and that's what you meant? (Freebie papers go straight into the bin here, and the last paper I purchased was the Daily Sketch!). I have to say though that the best local web news coverage has been on 'Salford Online', and I have to congratulate them on their continuing impartiality - and that must be very difficult when they're given two totally opposing meeting minutes from the same meeting!

Guest above but 1.

I've had a look as you said for the petition in support of the development and this is what I found:

http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&q=%22petition+in+support+of+green+lane+eco+park%22&btnG=Google+Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=%22petition+in+support+of+green+lane+eco+park%22&fp=c6c9946001627c7b

So the world's most popular search engine scoured the interweb and found a total of ZERO results. Widening the search for just a petition finds 7930 results:

http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&q=petition+for+green+lane+eco+park&meta=&aq=&oq=petition+for+green+lane+eco+park&fp=ee5043e2c838adbf

Please look through that lot and see if you can find the support petition. Or maybe set up one yourself. I'd be curious to see how many signitures you can get. You say you know of "so many people who are not against it". Well, I'm yet to meet them. The only people I know of have a financial interest in the plan themselves, they are not residents.

Your point about it being Patricroft is also incorrect. In any case I would not want one in Patricroft, or Winton, or Swinton, or Worsely, or Irlam... I could go on all day. These plants are not the way forward, no matter what the developers tell you. Even our old mucka Kevin has come to that conclusion. He, like you, was fairly supportive of the plan at first because he had been taken in to a degree by the marketing spin. After he did just a little research into what it all really means, he realised the effect this would have on the environment and the health of himself and his loved ones. There are links above in this thread which he cites as being pivotal in this turnaround.

Finally, for real sustainability and for the sake of our children, and their children, we need to use less, recycle more and design waste out in the first place. We should not burn it in dirty incinerators, in anyone's back yard.
