CONGREGATION OF YOUTHS - SUMMER IS HERE!!!!
Kevin
(21 July 2008)

I know I'm reopening an old thread, but the sad fact is that at the very least the bike issue still remains. With ref to to the post from Steve 4/7/2007 that particular bike is still being driven (badly, and noisily) at high speeds around the Westwood Park, Parrin Lane, the canal towpath next to the canal bridge, and on other larger probably prohibited areas adjacent to that side of Monton Green. Occasionally the rider is joined by one or two others for a race, and that's when I've seen them on Parrin Lane dangerously speeding through the accident black-spot area and back down into the canal-side / Monton Green side area.
I accept that it may not still have the same owner, albeit the persons using it are so very obviously incapable of riding or controlling it anyway, but that bike has a very loud and distinctive annoying sound which is not only anti-sociable behaviour but is also degenerative to the area. Given its distinctive sound, why has it still not been located and destroyed?

MVCA have approached the Council with several schemes for young people in Monton but have been told that there is no funding for them or they expect MVCA to look for funding for them. MVCA is made up of volunteers who all have family and work commitments and this type of project needs time, commitment, plenty of bodies and a good grasp of where funding is available for young people centred activities. We are a small Association covering a small area of Salford so we are limited in our abilities to take on large projects.
What lead residents along with MVCA, have managed to do is to get the Council to agree to spend Section 106 money to re-furbish and set up new play areas in and around Eccles and Monton for various age groups. These will come on line in the next year.
The Council, Youth Service and other departments, depending on who has the lead on this, get monies from central goverment for postive activities for young people (PAYP) which cover a wide range of activities in a variety of settings. The trouble Monton had on Lansdowne Road was caused, in the main, by young people who were NOT from Monton, was due to to drinking excessively, destroying property and being a nuisance to other resident living on Lansdowne Road. In reponse to this, Eccles Youth Centre was opened on a Friday for any young person who wanted to go and the street based Youth Workers were involved as well.
If you have any ideas that MVCA can progress into something viable with the Council or are willing to lead on a project, please come to the meetings at the Monton House Hotel which are held on the 1st Thursday of every month and you would be most welcome.

Is Summer Here ? If so, where is here ? as I'd like to be where ever here is....it sounds nice !!
also is there a name for a congregation of youths ? like a gaggle of geese of a flock of sheep. What about a scroat of youths ?
I was young once for a very short space of time, then I grew up, got a job a mortgaage a bird and now I generally moan alot about rubbish on T.V. and kids.
I think I was about 7 when I grew up and stopped having fun, just about the time they shut the quaker bridge playground down.
